Environmental Policy

The emergence of global markets and the growing trend for businesses to be environmentally aware have strengthened our commitment to protecting the environment. This commitment was officially recognised in 2003 when Caviro adopted the model established by UNI EN ISO 14001:2004. Following this development, the sites at Faenza and Forli were certified in accordance to the outlined structure.

  • Recycle in order to reduce the consumption of non-renewable energy and unnecessary waste;
  • Reduce water consumption;
  • Improve the environmental performance of the business and ensure ongoing development of environmental practices;
  • Foster a sense of responsibility for the environment with staff, partners, suppliers and clients through training, encouragement and incentives.

Integrated Cycle and Energy Self-Sufficiency

From vineyards to energy self-sufficiency: the Caviro Group is committed to the environment.

The vineyards are not solely used to make wine from grapes – the by-products of the winemaking process (the must, the lees and the marc) are used to make sugars and grape juices, alcohol, calcium tartrate, tartaric acid and compost used for agricultural purposes – ultimately, ENERGY.

Every year Caviro transforms over 280.000 tons of by-products – a weight comparable with the 275.000 tons of the Empire State Building in New York. The purification and incineration of the waste from the food product line allows for the total energy self-sufficiency of the Caviro facilities.

Zero Emmissions

The Caviro Group is strongly committed to working towards the goals outlined by the Kyoto Protocol. We use renewable sources instead of conventional resources to generate power.

In addition, organic matter generated by the winemaking process is returned to the land. This integrated cycle is extremely valuable, and achieves almost ZERO IMPACT on the environment.

Tetra Pak® advantages for the eco-conscious consumer

At Caviro we are committed to producing quality wines that meet the stringent demands of the eco-conscious consumer.

We are constantly evaluating and assessing our operations, in order to ensure our products are as environmentally friendly as possible.

We are moving our wines into lightweight glass bottles in order to lower our carbon footprint, and are the world leader in Tetra Pak® technology, which is the most environmentally efficient packing used in wine production. As well as being easy to transport, easy to open and ensuring consistent quality, Tetra Pak® packaging offers a number of environmental benefits, including:

Tetra Pak® cartons are extremely lightweight in comparison to traditional glass bottles, packing 1 million litres of wine in a 75cl Tetra Pak® can save up to 463 tonnes of packaging.

Transport efficient

Tetra Pak® is transport efficient, both before and after filling. They are lightweight and space efficient, meaning fewer trucks on the road, and lower carbon emissions. For example, it takes 25 lorries to transport the same number of empty glass bottles compared to just one lorry for the same number of empty Tetra Pak® cartons.

Tetra Pak® is 100% recyclable, making it the perfect choice for the environmentally conscious consumer.

Tetra Pak® is made from sustainable and renewable resources, namely wood, and we are committed to ensuring the forests we source from are responsibly mangaged. From early 2010, packaging used for our market leading Tavernello brand has been certified according to the stringent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) regulations.
